Following the instructions at GitHub are a bit beyond me right now.

While it lacks the power to truly get the backstory (i.e., follow the links to the source material), it nonetheless provides a short, visually attractive way of establishing that there is a backstory. I can see this having value with a lot of non-news-consuming students.

I think the details of implementation are going to matter immensely. You’re going to need a user-friendly tool that quickly dives into the archives, provides a limited range of photo and headline choices, a few snippets of licensed music, and some clean transitions. At that point, the question becomes “where do these live”? Are these sidebars to breaking news stories? Do they pre-roll when you load the page? I think the key is to get something out, even limited in functionality, and try it with one of the major news orgs to see whether it catches fire.
